Last night, a group of us gathered to celebrate a friend’s birthday, and it was truly a night to remember. We arrived a little early to decorate the table, adding a personal touch that made the evening feel even more special. The cocktail hour was a great time to mingle with fellow members and guests, sharing laughs and toasts before settling in for dinner.

During the meal, we enjoyed our own little celebration, tucked into our corner of the dining room. Chef Ralph outdid himself—every dish was absolutely delicious, and everyone at our table was raving about the food!

We’ll see you at the next one!

This past Tuesday, Ha’Penny Beach Club hosted another exceptional Tuesday dinner, featuring a beautifully curated menu that combined fresh flavors and expert preparation.

The evening began with a Salt Cod Brandade, a rich and creamy blend of salted cod, complemented by a citrus dressing and crisp radish. The dish provided the perfect balance of bright acidity and indulgent texture, setting the stage for a satisfying meal.

For the main course, guests enjoyed two distinct yet equally enticing options. The Apple Glazed Pork Loin, served with roasted sweet potatoes and sautéed fennel, was a standout. The tender pork, coated in a subtly sweet apple glaze, paired beautifully with the earthy sweetness of the potatoes and the aromatic fennel. The Honey Miso Glazed Salmon, accompanied by quinoa brown rice pilaf and bok choy, offered a lighter but equally flavorful alternative, with the miso glaze enhancing the natural richness of the trout.

To finish the evening, diners indulged in a classic Apple Tart Tatin, its caramelized apples and flaky pastry providing a warm and comforting conclusion to the meal.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this memorable dinner. We look forward to welcoming you back soon for more evenings of great food and conversation at Ha’Penny Beach Club.

This dish’s umami-rich glaze, nutty grains, and fresh greens pair well with crisp, mineral-driven white wines that highlight the delicate flavors of the trout without overpowering it.

White Wine Pairings:

  • Sauvignon Blanc (Whitehaven, Château de Sancerre) – A bright, citrus-forward Sauvignon Blanc with minerality complements the miso glaze and bok choy while refreshing the palate.
  • Grillo (Vigneti Zabu) – A Sicilian white with floral and citrus notes enhances the miso glaze’s depth and the dish’s fresh ingredients.
  • Chenin Blanc – With honeyed fruit and bright acidity, Chenin Blanc balances the dish’s sweet and savory notes.

Rosé Pairing:

  • Dry Rosé (Minuty M) – A crisp, Provence-style rosé brings fresh acidity and delicate red fruit flavors that work beautifully with the honey miso glaze.

For Apple Glazed Pork Loin, go with a Chardonnay, Riesling, or Pinot Noir to complement the dish’s sweet and savory elements. For Honey Miso Glazed Trout, opt for a Sauvignon Blanc, Grillo, or dry Rosé to enhance its delicate, umami-rich flavors.

The sweet and savory glaze on the pork, combined with the earthiness of sweet potatoes and the mild anise flavor of fennel, pairs beautifully with wines that have balanced acidity, fruitiness, and subtle spice.

White Wine Pairings:

  • Chardonnay (Louis Latour, La Crema) – A medium-bodied, slightly oaked Chardonnay with notes of baked apple, citrus, and vanilla complements the pork’s glaze and enhances the caramelized sweet potatoes.
  • Riesling – A dry or off-dry Riesling with crisp acidity and stone fruit flavors balances the dish’s sweetness while cutting through the richness.

Red Wine Pairings:

  • Pinot Noir (Sea Sun) – A light to medium-bodied Pinot Noir with cherry and earthy notes complements both the pork and the roasted elements of the dish.
  • Gamay – A fruity, low-tannin red like Beaujolais offers bright red fruit and floral notes that enhance the apple glaze and fennel.

Filet Au Poivre, with its tender beef, rich peppercorn sauce, and buttery potatoes, calls for wines that can stand up to the bold flavors of the dish while complementing its elegance.

Best Red Wine Pairings

  • Cabernet Sauvignon (The Cult 2020) – A full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with bold tannins and notes of dark berries, blackcurrant, and oak enhances the richness of the filet and balances the peppery sauce.
  • Merlot (St. Francis 2019) – A smooth, fruit-forward Merlot with soft tannins and flavors of dark plum and cocoa complements the creamy texture of the potatoes while enhancing the filet’s depth.
  • Pinot Noir (Sea Sun 2021) – A medium-bodied Pinot Noir with earthy notes and bright acidity pairs well with the peppercorn sauce without overwhelming the dish.
  • Syrah/Shiraz – With its black pepper, dark fruit, and smoky undertones, Syrah mirrors the bold peppercorn notes while standing up to the richness of the filet.
  • Bordeaux Blend – A classic left-bank Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot brings structured tannins, dark fruit, and a touch of spice that complement the dish’s creamy and peppery elements.

Alternative White Wine Pairing

  • Full-Bodied Chardonnay (Louis Latour, La Crema) – If opting for white wine, a rich, oaked Chardonnay with notes of vanilla, baked apple, and butter can provide a surprising yet harmonious pairing, especially complementing the potatoes and asparagus.

For the best pairing, choose a bold red wine with structured tannins and dark fruit to enhance the filet’s richness, or a full-bodied Chardonnay if you prefer a unique contrast.
